I have just received a Fujitsu DZ22, apparently directly in competition with Samsung NC series, but at least 30% cheaper with however something to add to View's configuration to get them to work. If I remember correctly, I think there is an add-on in the Wyse P20 to allow to manage it also with Wyse Device Manager et not only Teradici's console. Looks like a small company compared to Wyse, but for an almost 50% price gap, I am happy to take a shot. Very small with a nice design, the only funny thing I have found so far is they have a tendancy to get quite warm. I am using EVGA PD02 and they work just fine. Most clients can't compete with a zero client in performance, but thin clients have an application layer which have their own advantages (like caching). Client choice is really going to be a matter of what you consider acceptable performance. Also, know your use case, if you have a softphone that you need, make sure to get a client that will support a softphone outside of the virtual desktop (in this use case DON'T get a Zero Client).
Windows Embedded is probably going ot have better USB redirection than say HP ThinPro or Wyse Thin OS (WTOS). Take a close look at how they handle USB. If you look at their marketing materials they seem to communicate they are too good for a Zero Client.Īs far as Thin Clients go, I highly recommend calling Wyse. HP sells the EVGA ZC I mentioned above, they do not have a Zero Client of their own yet. Great for a use case where you need something like this though. And also support VoIP via a seperate channel using a backpack ZC on one of their VoIP phones. They make fiber Zero Clients.Ĭisco made the first PoE Zero Client. These guys make the high end Zero Clients, I don't typically see these in use for View environments so I won't get into them, but needless to say if you have some high end requirement they probably have something that works or can make you one. You are already familiar with the integrated monitor, they also have PoE integrated monitors, check this out:Īlso, Samsung announced their new unit that puts the Zero Client in the stand so that you can replace the monitor (or use existing monitors) if necessary. I am a huge fan of Samsung, mainly because I like how the innovate. That is unless Wyse dropped the MSRP from $499, I truely do not know if they did or not. Technically the same as the Wyse P20, but the MSRP is $200 less than the P20. They also have a management console that allows you to mix Thin Clients and Zero Clients but have them all managed through the same console. They have knowledge sales and technical people that can make sure you get the right product for your environment. Let's face it, Wyse knows this market better than anybody. That being said there are use cases for the different Zero Clients. Performance wise all Zero Clients are the same the only exception is that there are some client running 64MB of RAM instead of the typical 128MB, Dell FX100 for instance. They all run the same Teradici chip, so asking which Zero Client is better is like asking which is better a HP running an Intel i7 2.3GHZ process or a Dell with the same processor. In win7 this is not a huge problem tho, it's totally manageable but it sure would be nice to get rid of this issue.Zero Clients are Zero Clients.
Tho there are a few quality issues, for example if you open up a window, let's say microsoft outlook, and start dragging it around, you and the person on the other side of the phone will get alot of klicks and choppyness, the same thing happens if you scroll a very graphic intensive pdf document or you do something else that requires alot of attention from the cpu/storage. USB audio works and has great compatibility with alot of headset vendors, i've not managed to find one that does not work.
The analogue driver for the teradici chipset works and has fairly good audio quality, tho the microphone cuts out randomly a few times a day. Status with the teradici analogue driver: Now with the release of View 4.6 and Teradici FW 3.3.0(3.3.1) bidirectional usb audio works, tho it's not completly without problems. These tests are made for the single purpose of me wanting to support softphones in our current VDI deploymentīefore view 4.6 and teradici fw 3.3.0 this was a dead end, usb bidirectional audio was not supported. I have done extensive tests with audio, not on thin clients but on zero clients featuring the Teradici 1100 cpu.
